Adjacent, Against, Upon

“Adjacent, Against, Upon” – Michael Heizer, 1976. Myrtle Edwards Park, north of Pier 70. One of the oldest works commissioned by the percent-for-art ordinance, these 30-50 ton boulders were quarried in the Cascade Mountains. The entire piece consists of three boulders – one sitting next to a concrete pedestal, one leaning against another pedestal (pictured here), and a third giant stone sitting atop yet another pedestal.
