The Seattle Sounders went down a goal to Chicago Fire midway through the first half, but Lamar Neagle evened it up before halftime. It remained tied until shortly after Zach Scott subbed on. In the 89th minute, he sent a low driven cross into the box which Gonzalo Segares knocked into his own goal.
It definitely wasn’t the prettiest of wins. But as they say, a win is a win. And the Sounders now find themselves not only second place in the Western Conference, but also second in the Supporters’ Shield race. And they still have some games in hand on several teams.
Up next is a huge battle for the top of the division. First place Real Salt Lake is coming to town, and they are once again opening up the entire stadium. National team players, Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson, will be back from USMNT duty. Though with the match against Mexico on Tuesday, it remains to be seen how much involvement they will have in the Friday match.
