365: Day 30 – Firsts from Kona

Today I arrived in Kailua-Kona on the big island of Hawai’i. This is my first visit to any of the Hawaiian Islands, so I have very much been looking forward to this.

I couldn’t pick just one from this afternoon’s stroll around my brother’s place for the photo of the day. And I suspect this may happen a lot over the next 2 weeks while I’m here. But as I said at the beginning of this whole Project 365 thing, there is only the one rule — shoot everyday. What I do with it beyond that may vary.

So, on to the photos. I realize these are drastically different images to have on the same page. But what I love about it, is these were all taken within a few hundred yards of each other. The beautiful and delicate hibiscus flower (in a garden) next to the barren looking wasteland. They say this island has what, nearly all of the various major types of climates in the world? I think I’m going to like it here.

  1. Have a wonderful time in Hawai’i! It is one of Kent and I’s favorite places in the world.

While our hearts belong to Kona, I could certainly settle for a few weeks on the big island. :)

    Looking forward to more pics.

  2. You do have an eye for vegetation in the foreground and sun/landscape behind. In fact, I wonder if you’ve collected enough photos like the fourth to make a little show of it. I love the sun dropping behind whatever that plant is. (What is it?)

  3. I agree with Jenny–that last one is a winner.

  4. Thanks guys! Yeah, that last one is very similar to one I took in Arizona last year.
