Looking to start their MLS season with three wins at home, the Sounders were hopeful that they could match the start they had in 2009. But the San Jose Earthquakes weren’t willing to oblige. They took the lead in the 24th minute when Chris Wondoloski converted his penalty kick, and that turned out to be the winning goal. The final score was 1-0.
There was definitely an air of frustration felt around CenturyLink Field, mostly directed at the referee and Earthquakes’ striker Steven Lenhart. After re-watching the match when I got home, I have to say, many of the questionable calls that the crowd did not agree with, were in fact the correct decisions. Although I’m still unsure about the foul that led to the penalty. But Steven Lenhart did a great job at getting under the defender’s (and fan’s) skin throughout the match. So it would not be surprising if Marc Burch did give him a bit of a shove. Lenhart certainly milked it for all it was worth.
Anyway, on to the photos…
