It was a fantastic start to another weekend workshop at creativeLIVE. This time around it’s Food and Culture Photography with photojournalist Penny De Los Santos. Today was actually less about the technical aspects and more about the philosophy and business behind being a successful photographer. Here are some of the great quotes from throughout the day:
“You have to self-assign your dream assignment”
“Educate your mind so you can lead with your heart”
“Making (not taking) photos starts with using manual settings”
“Blogging and Twitter should be part of your camera bag”
“If I tried to steer this career, I’d crash it.”
Other highlights included discussions with Saveur Magazine‘s Editor in Chief James Oseland and the Director of Photography Larry Nighswander. In addition to some critiques of photos submitted by folks on the internet, Larry spent time discussing his role as a photo editor working with Penny while she is out assignment. The openness, candor and obvious respect that they showed each other was quite inspiring.
Here’s the full line up for the entire workshop. As always, it’s free to view and send in questions all weekend long while they are recording live and each night during the re-watch.
