In the last match of the season, Seattle Reign FC took on their rivals from the south, Portland Thorns FC. While USWNT star Alex Morgan was unavailable due to injury, Canadian national team captain Christine Sinclair led the Thorns to a 2-1 victory, scoring both of their goals. Megan Rapinoe scored the Reign’s only goal.
It was definitely an up and down first season for the Reign. After a brutal 0-9-1 start, they turned it around and went on a 5-1-1 run. But then they fell back into a slump and lost the last four matches of the season.
It will be interesting to see what changes occur during the offseason and who will be returning next year. Only time will tell.
At some point I may put together a post with my favorite photos from the whole season. But for now, here is a gallery from Saturday’s match.
