Star-studded Sounders Women Defeat Colorado Rush

Last night the Seattle Sounders Women played their first home match of the season against Colorado Rush. The home side fielded a team consisting of six national team players. Five have played for the US (Hope Solo, Alex Morgan, Sydney Leroux, Megan Rapinoe, and Stephanie Cox) and one for the Mexican national team (Veronica Perez). Solo, Morgan, Leroux, and Rapinoe were recently called up to the US Women’s National Team to compete in the 2012 London Olympics this summer.

A great crowd was on hand and the Sounders did not disappoint. Out-shooting Colorado 26-5, it was only a solid performance by Rush keeper Dayle Colpitts with 11 saves that kept the score close. But in the end, the two goals from Megan Manthey and Veronica Perez were all they needed to seal the victory, 2-1.

The next home match is on Monday, June 4. Tickets are still available online, but they won’t be for long. I highly suggest heading out there to watch this team play. It was a lot of fun!
