The day after the Sounders beat Chivas USA, the two teams met again in a Reserve League match at Starfire Sports.
There were a few new faces on the Sounders squad. Former Chelsea and Barcelona star Eidur Gudjohnsen had been on trial with the team all week and started up front with Sammy Ochoa. In the 22nd minute, Ochoa sent in a nice cross to the onrushing Gudjohnsen, who nonchalantly scored a behind the leg goal.
In the second half, Gudjohnsen was replaced by another new face on trial, former Ajax teammate of Mauro Rosales, George Ogararu from Romania. He took over defensively at right back.
I think Ogararu’s first touch on the ball was trapping a pass on his chest, then without letting it hit the ground, deftly passed it forward to a streaking Mike Seamon. Ogararu looked strong defensively and seemed to like getting into the attacking third. He also seems to have a nice long throwing ability in his bag of tricks. I hope the front office can work some magic and sign both of these guys before the September 15 roster freeze.
The other new face was Seth C’deBaca, who’s spent some time in the USL. He came on in the 82 minute and scored a nice goal to finish the match 4-2. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any decent photos of him.
But there are plenty of other photos, so, here you go…
