Hope Solo Debuts, but Seattle Falls to Portland

Arguably the league’s best team, Portland Thorns, played spoilers to Hope Solo’s debut appearance as Seattle Reign‘s number one after missing the beginning of the season due to a wrist surgery.

The Reign looked like the better team for much of the first half. They kept US Women’s National Team star Alex Morgan quiet, but couldn’t get past Canada’s goalkeeper, Karina LeBlanc.

Then late in the match, Portland was awarded a rather soft penalty kick and Christine Sinclair gave the Thorns the 1-0 lead. The Reign tried to surge late, but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

That’s a brutal seven losses in a row for the Reign.
