Sounders’ Struggles Continue: Fall 2-1 to Cascadia Rival Timbers

That makes it seven MLS matches in a row without a win for the Sounders. It’s the longest drought in franchise history. After having the best start to the season, the Sounders have hit a bit of a rough patch.

And of course, losing to their Cascadia Cup arch-rivals from the south, the Portland Timbers, made the loss all the more painful. It was the first time since the Sounders entered MLS that the Timbers have managed a win. They will meet two more times during the regular season — in Portland again in September, and Seattle the following month.

It was quite a treat to be able to shoot this match. This was actually my second visit to JELD-WEN Field (the first was the Timbers vs. Sporting KC match in April), but my first time shooting a derby match. And it definitely lived up to the hype. The energy was spectacular from both sets of supporter groups. I can’t wait until the October match in Seattle, in front of more than 64,000!
