Last night was a great celebration of soccer here in Seattle. UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea FC came to town for a friendly against the Seattle Sounders. While many in attendance were there to see Chelsea, much of the celebration was for longtime fan favorite Roger Levesque. This was Roger’s last appearance as a member of the Sounders, as he is retiring to pursue a Master’s degree in Business from the University of Washington in the fall.
It was fun to see the big stars from Chelsea. And it was great to see the huge support for Roger. After nine years as a Sounder, it’s no surprise he’s made so many friends in Seattle. Roger’s unbridled spirit will undoubtedly be missed in the locker room and training fields. But apparently he’ll still be coming to the matches, only now he’ll be watching from the stands as the club’s number one fan.
I have a larger than usual gallery, but hey, it was Chelsea, and it was Roger’s last match as a professional!
